Steiner School Open Afternoon

October 12 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Free

A tour of the school highlighting the sustainable build, including school gardens and outdoor facilities. Finishing with tea and cake.

There is also a tour on Saturday 13th October at 10am

The Steiner Academy Hereford opened in 2008 as the first state funded Steiner school in the UK.

As a new Academy their specialism was The Environment.  Their commitment to building a beautiful school using natural and low impact materials and technology can be seen throughout the buildings and grounds.

The tour will include obvious elements such as the biomass boiler, solar PV and reduced water toilets as well as revealing some of the lesser known features which demonstrate the incredible effort that went into including sustainability in all aspects of the new build and refurbishment project.

As a school they have a serious commitment to try and minimise their carbon-footprint by using energy derived from 100% renewable resources, by actively supporting a Green Travel Plan with facilitated lift-sharing and parent-run minibus routes, waste reduction with well supported composting and recycling. School meals are produced using fresh local, organic ingredients where possible and largely cooked from scratch on site. They are working towards sustainable procurement and will be happy to share information and receive suggestions on any points!
